Earlier this month, the Street Works UK Conference 2025 brought together leaders from utilities, construction, and infrastructure to drive improvements in safety, accessibility, and innovation across the sector. UIS Tooling & Technologies was proud to support Seema Flower, Founder and Managing Director of Blind Ambition, as she highlighted the importance of inclusive street works and the lived experiences of blind and partially sighted pedestrians.

Representing UIS, Gavin Iredale attended the event at the Birmingham Hilton Metropole to support Seema and help showcase the Safe Passage Ramp (SPR) – an accessible temporary works solution developed collaboratively by Blind Ambition, UIS, Severn Trent, and Cusack.
Showcasing the Safe Passage Ramp: Improving Accessibility in Temporary Street Works
The Safe Passage Ramp was engineered to provide a secure, stable crossing for blind and partially sighted people, as well as those using mobility aids. Its design addresses accessibility gaps frequently found in traditional temporary works equipment.
Throughout the conference, Seema demonstrated how the SPR enhances safe navigation across street works sites. She shared:
“UIS has done a remarkable job designing a product that not only meets the operational needs of the industry but also considers the human experience — particularly for disabled and vulnerable pedestrians. It’s a clear example of what can be achieved when engineering excellence meets lived experience.”
Gavin joined Seema in speaking with contractors, utilities providers, and industry specialists about the growing need for safer, more accessible street works solutions.
Leading the Way in Inclusive Street Works
During her panel session on accessibility within the Street Works industry, Seema emphasised the importance of embracing new technology that improves safety and equality of access. She said:
“I’m always inspired by how willing the Street Works community is to embrace new technology and make our streets safer and more accessible for everyone. Together, we’re not just connecting communities — we’re creating equality of access.”
UIS is proud to contribute to this shift by ensuring accessibility is central to product development. Our work with Blind Ambition combines user-led insight with engineering expertise to push the industry forward in addressing real-world challenges faced by blind and partially sighted pedestrians.bout the growing need for safer, more accessible street works solutions.

Continuing Our Commitment
UIS Tooling & Technologies remains dedicated to advancing street works safety, inclusive design, and accessible temporary works equipment. The Safe Passage Ramp exemplifies our mission to develop tools that help contractors create safer environments for all road users.
